I mentioned this in a post last week, but let's discuss. I can only imagine this is the result of COTA not capturing enough car and racing nuts of average means. The marketing approach thus far has been, "Are you rich? Let's talk." It doesn't fly in Austin, and it doesn't fly with gearheads.

The new CEO used to run NFL teams. A good fit?

Hard to say. The NFL certainly caters to enthusiasts and "average Joes." However, season tickets, and even single tickets, are exorbitant. If anything, perhaps this guy will understand the big picture of managing a large event.

Maybe pricing won't shift much. Maybe it will. I think what's been missing form COTA events thus far has been any sort of a truly festive atmosphere. Go to some NASCAR races or LeMans. Learn about gearhead culture a little bit. It's not hard. Lots of photo opportunities. Relaxed. Facilitate the ability of the crowd to mingle and become part of the event, not just spectators. Don't take advantage of a captive crowd. I mean, this isn't rocket surgery. Gearheads and racing fans aren't much different if any than fans of other sports. We basically just want to bench race, hang out, have access to the facility, drink some beers, see some cool cars, and not get screwed by a nickel and dime approach to pricing.

Well said. Maybe you should write a letter.

I'm considering writing a pitch to hire me and a few other wretched folks to the PR and/or social media team. They could use a few people who are racing fans, who get car culture, and who are already tied in.

I mean, honestly, why has Jalopnik or Top Gear or Drive or whoever not yet been given an all-access free day to this facility? How hard could it be?

Good questions. Despite being an Austin resident, I have yet to go to a race. I was talking to a friend who went because his company (Verizon) had a presence there. He told me about all of the perks he and the senior execs got, and it struck me that the race is exorbitantly expensive for those who can't afford it, and basically free for those who can. I guess that's the way global business is done these days.

Apparently he has also been making claims that he cant back up, as well as taking credit from other people.
